Roil Projects was contacted by Nitehawk Year Round Adventure Park in Grande Prairie, AB, a local ski hill and mountain biking trails resort located on the banks of the Wapiti river. In the initial discussion our client had suffered a massive landslide which had affected half of the hill and pushed several towers on the chair lift down the hill. They were looking for options on how to remove the towers safely in order to repair the hill.<\/p>\n

Our Team lead by James Rutherford, President, John Bradley Roil Projects\u2019 GM, and Brandon Charbonneau Roil Projects\u2019 Operations Manager made a trip out to the facility the day after it happened to survey the damage and come up with a plan of how to move forward and possibly salvage the damaged chair lift. The team had been sent some photos in advance but once they arrived they all realized that the pictures didn\u2019t do it justice\u2026the damage was far worse than they had expected. Upon further inspection while walking the site they realized just how much dirt was going to be moved before they could even think about bringing any equipment down. So a plan was hatched to bring in a track hoe and a dozer in order to move enough ground and build an access road up to the three towers that were going to need to be removed.<\/p>\n

This 175 man open camp was our first major job for Right Choice Camps and Catering out of Edmonton. ROIL Projects Inc. won the bid for the complete install of this camp which included having to shut down, winterize and dismantle of their \u201cGhost\u201d open camp near Grande Cache and then organizing to have the camp trucked to the ANC location near Fox Creek.<\/p>\n

This job was on a tight timeline which required many of our tradesmen to work through the holiday season to hand over the camp fully functional and ready for occupancy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Once in place the team rigged up the truck for the first lift on tower #2, The pictures and video kind of tell the rest of the story. The team was able to free the first tower that was leaning at a precarious angle from its 30,000lbs base with the assistance of the hoe hooked onto the bottom of the tower as we lifted the top. After the first tower was complete the team headed up the hill to set down the final two towers. We were able to get the entire job completed in\u00a0one day.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Stay tuned for the rest of the story as Nitehawk determines where the chair lift will be moved to, hopefully for the upcoming ski season, Rest assured Roil Projects will be assisting with the re-assembly once ground work is finished.
